There are some things you can do now to stop Hicham Yezza, an innocent person wrongly - and ludicrously - suspected of involvement in terrorist conspiracy, being summarily deported without due process.
- You can write to the home secretary, Jacqui Smith, at indpublicenquiries@ind.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk asking her to reverse the decision to deport Mr Yezza and allow him to account for any inconsistencies in his visa documentation in court, as he had originally volunteered to do.
- You can write to Willie Walsh, Chief Executive of British Airways, and ask that he exercise the discretion allowed him by the law and refuse to carry an unwilling deportee.
- You can send a fax to Hicham Yezza in the detention centre where he is currently being held, expressing your support for him.
- You can sign this online petition.
Even if you only have time to do one of these things, please make the effort.
Mr Yezza is not the first person to have been treated in this high-handed way by a paranoiac security apparatus and a draconian immigration service. If we do not succeed in stopping them, now and in the future, there will be many more. It’s time we started getting good at this*.
