DREAM A LITTLE; dream of me
in guise of padre, age unguessable,
untimely in dress and manner. I raise
my hand in absolution, but cannot
complete the gesture; or keep getting
it somehow wrong, like cutting
away to kung-fu chops, disco
manipulations which portend
mild consternation, lifting towards noon.

Today’s Grauniad has on one page an image of the front cover of a biography of Momma Cass. The title, “Dream a little dream of me” is split by a photograph of the book’s subject, so that it appears to read “Dream a little / dream of me”. The real-time subtitles for the last England game of this World Cup at one point rendered “Hargreaves” as “High Priest”. I don’t believe I’ve ever dreamed about myself as a priest, but it might be fun to appear in other people’s dreams as one - especially a half-cocked one, as above.
