I don’t know why Carol Anne Duffy brings out the snipe in me; maybe it really is because she’s a successful and widely-admired female poet who occasionally writes about domestic themes. Anyhow, here’s the Grauniad’s review of her latest.
The reviewer praises Duffy’s “distinctively intellectual attention to repetition and wordplay”. Distinctively? Really? What sort of intellectual crowd would you have to be in for that level of wordplay to stand out?
